10 (More) Reasons You're Not Rich - By By Jeffrey Strain

Many people assume they aren't rich because they don't earn enough money. If I only earned a little more, I could save and invest better, they say.

The problem with that theory is they were probably making exactly the same argument before their last several raises. Becoming a millionaire has less to do with how much you make, it's how you treat money in your daily life.

The list of reasons you may not be rich doesn't end at 10. Caring what your neighbors think, not being patient, having bad habits, not having goals, not being prepared, trying to make a quick buck, relying on others to handle your money, investing in things you don't understand, being financially afraid and ignoring your finances.

Here are 10 more possible reasons you aren't rich:

You care what your car looks like: A car is a means of transportation to get from one place to another, but many people don't view it that way. Instead, they consider it a reflection of themselves and spend money every two years or so to impress others instead of driving the car for its entire useful life and investing the money saved.

You feel entitlement: If you believe you deserve to live a certain lifestyle, have certain things and spend a certain amount before you have earned to live that way, you will have to borrow money. That large chunk of debt will keep you from building wealth.

You lack diversification: There is a reason one of the oldest pieces of financial advice is to not keep all your eggs in a single basket. Having a diversified investment portfolio makes it much less likely that wealth will suddenly disappear.

You started too late: The magic of compound interest works best over long periods of time. If you find you're always saying there will be time to save and invest in a couple more years, you'll wake up one day to find retirement is just around the corner and there is still nothing in your retirement account.

You don't do what you enjoy: While your job doesn't necessarily need to be your dream job, you need to enjoy it. If you choose a job you don't like just for the money, you'll likely spend all that extra cash trying to relieve the stress of doing work you hate.

You don't like to learn: You may have assumed that once you graduated from college, there was no need to study or learn. That attitude might be enough to get you your first job or keep you employed, but it will never make you rich. A willingness to learn to improve your career and finances are essential if you want to eventually become wealthy.

You buy things you don't use: Take a look around your house, in the closets, basement, attic and garage and see if there are a lot of things you haven't used in the past year. If there are, chances are that all those things you purchased were wasted money that could have been used to increase your net worth.

You don't understand value: You buy things for any number of reasons besides the value that the purchase brings to you. This is not limited to those who feel the need to buy the most expensive items, but can also apply to those who always purchase the cheapest goods. Rarely are either the best value, and it's only when you learn to purchase good value that you have money left over to invest for your future.

Your house is too big: When you buy a house that is bigger than you can afford or need, you end up spending extra money on longer debt payments, increased taxes, higher upkeep and more things to fill it. Some people will try to argue that the increased value of the house makes it a good investment, but the truth is that unless you are willing to downgrade your living standards, which most people are not, it will never be a liquid asset or money that you can ever use and enjoy.

You fail to take advantage of opportunities: There has probably been more than one occasion where you heard about someone who has made it big and thought to yourself, "I could have thought of that." There are plenty of opportunities if you have the will and determination to keep your eyes open.

Inspirational Stories - Greed, A Curse

Once upon a time there lived a cloth merchant in a village with his wife and two children. They were indeed quite well-off. They had a beautiful hen which laid an egg everyday. It was not an ordinary egg, rather, a golden egg. But the man was not satisfied with what he used to get daily. He was a get rich-trice kind of a person.

The man wanted to get all the golden eggs from his hen at one single go. So, one day he thought hard and at last clicked upon a plan. He decided to kill the hen and get all the eggs together.

So, the next day when the hen laid a golden egg, the man caught hold of it, took a sharp knife, chopped off its neck and cut its body open.

There was nothing but blood all around & no trace of any egg at all. He was highly grieved because now he would not get even one single egg.

His life was going on smoothly with one egg a day but now, he himself made his life miserable. The outcome of his greed was that he started becoming poorer & poorer day by day and ultimately became a pauper. How jinxed and how much foolish he was.

So, the moral of the story is- one who desires more, looses all. One should remain satisfied with what one gets.

Definition Of Forgiveness - By Karen Grisham

1. Anger: a justifiable response

It may seem ordinary for people to be angry and want revenge when they have been assaulted, a family member murdered, or some other violence has shattered their lives.

I believe that anger is often justified, reasonable and expected in these and other, less devastating situations.

2. Thoughts on forgiveness: a second option.

A definition of forgiveness:

Many sources cite quotes on forgiveness, most with unknown origins. Here are some of them:

* "Forgiveness is opening the prison gates, and discovering that I am free at last."
* "Forgiveness is giving up the right to hurt you for hurting me."
* "Forgiveness is acknowledging that the offender did the best he could with his resources at the time."
* "Forgiveness is letting go of the emotional connection to an event."

What forgiveness is NOT:

* Forgiveness is not excusing or condoning the offending behavior.
* Forgiveness is not removal of the natural and logical consequences for the behavior.
* Forgiveness does not mean the offender has the right to resume pre-offense rights and privileges in your relationship.
* Forgiveness does not mean you need to invite the offender back into your life.

Outcomes: lessons on forgiveness

* Freedom to move on.
* Freedom to trust others.
* Freedom from the influence of bitterness, anger and judgment.
* Freedom to love, give, and enjoy life.
* Freedom to reconcile a damaged relationship.

How will you choose?

* Forgiveness is the gift that keeps on giving, to you and to the offender.
* Forgiveness assures clearance of any residual judgment or criticism you may have held.
* Forgiveness need not be accepted by another to be powerful
* Whether or not a relationship is reconciled will depend on the circumstances of the situation.
* Forgiveness begins healing, and models healing behavior
* Inviting the other person back into your life is an option
* Safety is a consideration.
* Many factors will determine whether this approach is reasonable. Often it depends on the accountability and remorse expressed by the offender
* Nobody loses with forgiveness, the offender is free to choose accountability over guilt.

Forgiveness implemented is the key to everyday freedom.

It costs nothing and the rewards are limitless. The thoughts on forgiveness presented here are offered to help you simplify your life.

Anger, resentment and bitterness drain us of emotional energy. Forgiveness is energizing and simplifies life. It provides you with the means to go forward in the presence of adversity, and gain the best possible quality of life. I encourage you to try it!

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” – Lewis B. Smedes

"Forgiveness is a funny thing. It warms the heart and cools the sting." - William Arthur Ward

"Forgiveness is the sweetest revenge." - Isaac Friedmann

"Forgive all who have offended you, not for them, but for yourself." - Harriet Nelson

Forgiveness

To forgive
Is not to forget.

To forgive
Is really to remember

That nobody is perfect

That each of us stumbles
When we want so much to stay upright

That each of us says things
We wish we had never said

That we can all forget that love
Is more important than being right.

To forgive
Is really to remember

That we are so much more
Than our mistakes

That we are often more kind and caring

That accepting another's flaws
Can help us accept our own.

To forgive
Is to remember

That the odds are pretty good that
We might soon need to be forgiven ourselves.

That life sometimes gives us more
Than we can handle gracefully.

To forgive
Is to remember

That we have room in our hearts to
Begin again

And again,
And again.

Review - Forgiveness Is A Choice

Forgiveness Is a Choice is a self-help book for people who have been deeply hurt by another and caught in a vortex of anger, depression, and resentment. As a creator of the first scientifically proven forgiveness program in the country, Robert D. Enright shows how forgiveness can reduce anxiety and depression while increasing self-esteem and hopefulness toward one's future. This groundbreaking work demonstrates how forgiveness, approached in the correct manner, benefits the forgiver far more than the forgiven. Filled with wisdom and warm encouragement, the book leads the reader on a path that will bring clarity and peace. Enright is careful to distinguish forgiveness from "pseudoforgiveness" and to reassure readers that forgiveness does not mean accepting continued abuse or even reconciling with the offender. Rather, by giving the gift of forgiveness, readers are encouraged to confront and let go of their pain in order to regain their lives.
